The Electoral Commission (EC) has started issuing voter location slips to registered voters in Kikuube District ahead of the June 18 by-election for district chairperson.

Speaking on Monday, EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi said the exercise will run from June 1 to June 10 and is intended to help voters easily identify their polling stations before election day.

“Starting today, June 1, 2026, the Electoral Commission is issuing voter location slips to all registered voters in Kikuube District in preparation for the election of a new district chairperson,” Mucunguzi said.

The by-election follows the death of Peter Banura, the former Kikuube District chairperson, in a motor accident in April 2026, which created a vacancy that the commission is required to fill in accordance with electoral laws.

Mucunguzi said the voter location slips will be distributed by parish supervisors, who serve as Electoral Commission officials responsible for election management at parish level.

“These voter location slips will be issued by parish supervisors across all the parishes that make up Kikuube District. We call upon all registered voters to reach out to the parish supervisors and collect their slips,” he said.

According to the commission, the slips are meant to help voters confirm their designated polling stations and ensure a smooth voting process on polling day.

“The purpose of these voter location slips is to make it easy for voters to identify where they are supposed to vote,” Mucunguzi added.

Polling for the district chairperson by-election is scheduled for June 18.

The Electoral Commission has urged all eligible voters in the district to collect their slips and prepare to participate in the election.

Mucunguzi also appealed to political actors and other stakeholders to maintain peace throughout the electoral process.

“The Commission further calls upon all stakeholders in Kikuube District to conduct themselves peacefully and ensure that the election is conducted in accordance with the law,” he said.

The by-election will determine who succeeds the late Peter Banura as Kikuube District chairperson.
